I’m exploring my options on the used market for snow tires and rim combos...There is someone on CL selling a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that are sized 225/60R16 and someone who is also selling a set of 16 inch Celica wheels. On the Matrix, 16 inch wheels tend to use the 205/55R16 size. Will it fit? I know it might rub.... Chart for explanation below.

Those tires should fit just fine. You’ll have a little sidewall past the rim, but otherwise they should work.

You should be trying to get skinnier tires for winter, but as you are shopping used that may not be possible.

The Matrix/Vibe has a really common tire/wheel size combo so finding a set be super easy. When I had my Vibe I bought winter tires that where previously on a Corolla.

Just know that your speedo will be reading a bit off. Your tire inputs were backwards, so at indicated 60mph you’ll actually be going ~65mph.

The bigger tires are almost 2" taller than your stock size. Your speedometer will be way off and it’s just ehh overall.

Those tires will almost certainly rub on your car. They will mount to the wheels no problem, but I wouldn’t even try to actually put them on the car. It may look like things are fitting when you’ve got the car jacked up, but as soon as you put weight on the wheel and turn your steering wheel you’re going to run into problems.

With your current tires on the car park it with the wheel turned all the way to the stops. Now see if you’ve got enough room to fit a tire with almost another inch of radius and that sticks out almost another half inch on each side of the wheel. If you still think it will fit have someone sit on that corner of the car since you’ll load up the suspension when turning. Then have a second person lean on that same corner to simulate hitting a bump mid corner. If those tires aren’t chewing themselves to shreds on the suspension or inside of the wheel well at that point I would be shocked.

Never mind. They are too tall. I was only looking at the width difference.

A friend with a 2010 ish TRD Matrix is coming over in a bit. His winter tires are a bit too big and rub when approaching full steering lock, but otherwise are mostly okay. I’ll find out what size they are.

They’re 215/60R17's, and the rub is manageable. That’s a half-inch narrower than the one’s you’re looking at, and about a half inch taller. So I think they’ll work out okay if you’re really needing to budget, but they probably won’t be ideal.
